Quarteroni
Democrat Bob Quarteroni, 63, of Luzerne, has announced his candidacy for Luzerne County Council.
Quarteroni has a bachelor’s degree in English literature from King’s College and a master’s degree in journalism from Penn State.
He was an editor and columnist for the Centre Daily Times in State College, Pa., for seven years before pursuing a career in academic public relations.
He was director of college news at Saint Leo College (now university) near Tampa, Fla; senior writer at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla; executive director of public information at Alfred University in Alfred, N.Y. and, most recently, director of public information at Montclair State University in Upper Montclair, N.J.
Since returning to Northeastern Pennsylvania from New Jersey three years ago, Quarteroni has written editorials for The Times-Leader and worked part-time for a public relations firm in Scranton. He currently handles publicity on a part-time basis for Eckley Miners’ Village as well while pursuing freelance writing and editing opportunities.
Quarteroni said his main qualification for council is that he never held or run for public office before, which means he hasn’t “been contaminated by association with the professional political piggies who have been feeding – and fattening themselves – at the public feeding trough for decades.”
“I firmly believe that the only hope for this county moving forward is for the citizenry to get off their butts and reclaim the leadership from the professional fat cats who have made Luzerne County a laughingstock, who have placed far, far too many friends and relatives into do-nothing, overpaid jobs, who have driven up our taxes and left us dangling on the precipice of fiscal insolvency,” Quarteroni wrote.
Quarteroni said he welcomes assistance with his campaign and asks anyone who wants to get involved to contact him at bobq6@verizon.net.
