In the 2009 primary, he was the third highest vote-getter out of 17 candidates.

Sklarosky

Attorney Joe Sklarosky Jr. has announced his candidacy for one of six open seats on the Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas. He will seek the nomination of both the Democratic and Republican parties on the primary ballot May 17.

A trial attorney for the last 17 years, Sklarosky pledges to be a judge of whom every citizen in Luzerne County will be proud.

“I will bring integrity, accountability and experience to the bench,” he said. “I know the courtroom because I’ve been there practically every day since I started practicing law. The people of Luzerne County expect and deserve good, honest government. The job of a judge is to guarantee that the courtroom is a level playing field every day in every case – no exceptions. I am committed to that.”

Sklarosky, a Luzerne County assistant public defender and member of Teamsters Local 401, began practicing law in 1994 and has tried dozens of jury trials and participated in thousands of court hearings. He has also practiced law in state and federal appellate courts.

A graduate of Coughlin High School in Wilkes-Barre, Sklarosky earned his undergraduate degree from King’s College, graduating summa cum laude. He graduated cum laude from Widener University School of Law.

Outside the courtroom, he is a member of community organizations and has volunteered his time at local schools, including speaking at career day at GAR High School for several years and coaching the former Bishop Hafey High School Mock Trial team.

“The people of Luzerne County deserve a judicial system they can be proud of,” Sklarosky said. “My wife and I have deep roots in Luzerne County and are proud to be raising our four children here. My goal, if elected judge, is to make sure that we have a judicial system that lives up to the expectations of the people of Luzerne County.”

In the 2009 primary, Sklarosky was the third highest vote-getter out of 17 candidates, trailing only William Amesbury and Tina Polachek Gartley.
