The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission will host family ice fishing programs on Sunday, Feb. 20, at Nescopeck State Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 26, at Lackawanna State Park from 1 to 4 p.m. The educational program is designed for families with little or no fishing experience. Families will learn basic fishing skills and have an opportunity to practice those skills while fishing together during the program. It’s important to arrive on-time for the start of the program. The first half of the program is instructional. You will learn about fishing safety and manners, how to cast your line and tie knots (and practice both of these skills), basic fishing tackle, laws and regulations, etc. The second half of the program will provide your family with the opportunity to fish together. The fishing license requirement is waived for participants 16 and older. The program is open to all ages. To register for the Nescopeck program, call the park at 403-2006; for the Lackawanna program, call Angela Lambert at 945-7110.
