How They Fared

Here’s how the 12 remaining District 2 wrestlers fared on Friday, the second day of the PIAA Championships at Giant Center in Hershey.

CLASS 2A

Vito Pasone, Meyers (112): Was pinned by Jamestown’s Tyler Roberts in the quarterfinals to fall into the losers bracket. In the second round of consolations, he beat South Side Beaver’s Nathan Reckner, 5-4. Then in the third round of consolations, he faced Bethlehem Catholic’s Zeke Moisey and lost 7-2. Up Next: In the seventh-place match, he will meet Bermudian Springs’ Brad Farley.

Austin Harry, Lake-Lehman (119): In the second round of consolations he lost 10-3 to Wilson’s Michael Fleck and was eliminated.

Casey Fuller, Western Wayne (160): Lost to defending state champion, Charleroi’s Cody Wiercioch, 6-2 in the quarters. In the second round of consolations, he beat Noah Horst from Schuylkill Valley, 3-1 in overtime, to advance to the third round of consolations, where he met Bentworth’s Dylan Demain and won 3-1. He then faced Tyler Gargano from Hickory in the fourth round of consolations and lost 4-2. Up next: In the fifth-place match, he will take on Ty Walter from Mifflinburg.

Eric Laytos, Lackawanna Trail (215): The defending state champion was pinned in 1:06 by Northern Bedford senior Joel Suter in the quarterfinals. He fell into the losers bracket and rebounded to pin Wyomissing’s Tyler Rank in 1:12 to advance to the next round of consolations. In the third round of consolations, he lost 9-3 to Fort LeBoeuf’s Brandon Bredney. Up next: In the seventh-place match, he will face Danville’s Dylan Dailey.

CLASS 3A

Michael Domarasky, Pittston Area (112): He lost to Godwin Nyama from Brashear 5-3 in the second round of consolations and was eliminated.

C.J. Palmer, Delaware Valley (119): He dropped his quarterfinal bout 2-1 to Mackenzie McGuire from Upper St. Clair and fell into the losers bracket, where he lost 5-2 to Dereck Enders from Big Spring and was eliminated.

Tim Samec, Hazleton Area (152): Lost to Northampton’s John Lambert 9-2 in the second round of consolations and was eliminated from competition.

Chad Hoffman, Hazleton Area (171): The junior beat Cedar Cliff’s Grant Dickey 3-2 in the second round of consolations to stave off elimination. Up next: Butler Area’s Cole Baxter in the third round of consolations.

Mike Mirra, Crestwood (189): He was pinned in the quarters by Upper Moreland’s John Bolich in 1:35 and dropped into the consolations, where he lost 3-1 to Phil Sprenkle from Dallastown to be eliminated.

Josh Popple, Coughlin (189): He beat Harriton’s Haddon Corbett 7-3 in the quarterfinals to move on to this morning’s semifinals. Up next: Kiski Area’s Matt McCutcheon in the semifinals.

Jason Laboranti, Pittston Area (215): Wrestled Parkland’s Tarek Haddad in the second round of consolations, dropped a 3-1 decision and was eliminated.

Morgan Craig, Abington Heights (285): The Comet lost in the quarterfinals to Canon-McMillan’s Cody Klempay, 5-1. He fell into the losers bracket, lost 4-3 in the ultimate tiebreaker to Corry’s Alec Gluvna and was eliminated.
