WILKES-BARRE – A Freeland man was sentenced Thursday to just over 10 years in state prison on charges he inappropriately touched two girls over a one-year period.
Robert Michael Blanyar, 29, of Pershing Street, was sentenced by Luzerne County Senior Judge Hugh Mundy on two counts of indecent assault and one count of aggravated indecent assault of a child. He received a total of 10 years, seven months to 21 years, five months in prison. He also must register his address under Megan’s Law for his entire life.
Blanyar had pleaded guilty to the charges in December.
According to court papers, police interviewed the first victim in April 2010. She said she was watching TV with Blanyar when tickled her and then inappropriately touched her.
Police later interviewed Blanyar, who allegedly admitted he touched the girl, but not in an inappropriate way.
In another case, another girl told police in May 2010 that she was sleeping in her room just before Christmas 2009 when she woke up because she felt Blanyar molesting her. She said she pretending to be sleeping because she was afraid.
When police spoke with Blanyar about the incident a few months later, he said he had been living with the girl’s family off and on and he didn’t do what the girl said he did.
He said he was taking “copious amounts” of drugs and couldn’t remember those things happening.
Blanyar was interviewed again the next month and said he remembered more of what happened and he did touch the girl inappropriately.
