Joseph A. “Hozay” Mamola, 53, of Mill Street in the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, passed into Eternal Life unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, March 10, 2011, in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital following complications from recent surgery.

Born May 18, 1957, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of Joseph C. and Josephine (Coley) Mamola, Parsons.

He was educated in the former Sacred Heart Parish school, North Wilkes-Barre, and later graduated from the James M. Coughlin High School.

Joe was employed as an assembler with Inter Metro Corporation, Parsons section of the city. Previously, he was employed with the former Muskin Pools Co., Wilkes-Barre.

He was a member of the Catholic Community of North East Wilkes-Barre; held membership in the North End Slovak Citizens Club, where he presently served as an officer; and the Triangle Club of Miners Mills and the Italian Club (I.A.C.C.) of Plains Township.

Hozay is remembered by family and friends for his love of harness racing, and visited various tracks throughout the United States.

Surviving, in addition to his parents at home, are his brother, Mark M. Mamola, and his wife, Kathleen, of Wilkes-Barre; his sister, Joanne M. Koval, and her husband, Donald, North Wilkes-Barre; nieces and nephews, including Christopher Koval, Jennifer Panzino, Melissa Miele, Sarah Comparetta, Elizabeth Koval and Mark Mamola. Also surviving are several great-nieces; great-nephews; aunts; uncles; cousins and many wonderful friends.

Funeral services for Hozay will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday from the John V. Morris Funeral Home, 625 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael J. Kloton, Parochial Vicar, officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Dorchester Drive, Dallas. Relatives and friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where vigil services will be accorded.

In lieu of floral tributes, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the American Red Cross Blood Services, 29 New Commerce Blvd., Hanover Township, PA 18706.
