LA CROSSE, Wis. — King’s standout Mike Reilly won both of his matches Friday to advance to the semifinals of the NCAA Division III National Wrestling Championships at the La Crosse Center.
Reilly, the fourth seed in the 174-pound bracket, is now two wins away from capturing a national championship and has already earned All-America status. He can finish no lower than sixth.
The Crestwood grad defeated unseeded Zach Bates of Bridgewater State in Friday’s opening round before knocking off fifth-seeded Matt Pfarr of St. John’s (Minn.) in the quarterfinals.
Reilly trailed Pfarr 1-0 before answering with a reversal and adding a riding-time point to secure a 3-1 victory. Earlier in the day, Reilly used a second-period escape and a penalty point to hold off Bates for a 2-0 win to reach the quarters.
Now at 32-1 on the season, Reilly will face eighth-seeded Bradley Banks (18-5) of Wartburg College in the semifinals, which begin at 11 a.m. Banks upset No. 1 Kyle Kwait in the quarterfinals.
