WILKES-BARRE – U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, D-Scranton, will join Mayor Thomas M. Leighton to make a “major announcement” at Coal Street Park at 9 a.m. Monday.

The press conference will be held near the recently constructed playground.

Coal Street Park recently underwent a near $14 million renovation, with a new ice skating facility, commercial and retail space and new equipment.

The city has plans to build a splash park this summer.

Coal Street is being widened to five lanes as part of a $12 million project that began last summer and will be completed in 2012.
