Charles E. Leggett, 81, of Camp Hill, Pa., died Tuesday, April 5, 2011, with family and friends close by in the Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice Home on Lingelstown Road, Harrisburg, Pa.

Charlie founded Leggett Inc., a mechanical contracting firm, in 1965 which his son now owns and operates. He was born in 1929, a son of Ernest and Catherine Bauer Leggett. He graduated from Allentown High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Charlie served on the Boards of Directors of the West Shore YMCA, The Salvation Army of Harrisburg, and the West Shore Country Club, where he has been a member since 1969. During his life, Charlie loved to travel, garden, swim, ski and play golf and tennis – always with friends and family.

Surviving Charlie are his wife, Holly Metzger Leggett; two brothers, Thomas and Richard Leggett, both residing in Florida; four children, James and wife, Kimberly Leggett, Donald Leggett, Ernest and his wife, Kim Leggett, and Jan and her husband, Ronald Hawkes; as well as two stepdaughters, Kelly and her husband, Eric Schnabel, and Alice and husband, Bart Anderson. His grandchildren were his delight; Jessica, Catherine, Matthew, Anna, Michael, Brandon, Justin and Ashley Leggett, Lexy Hawkes, Adina and Tavo Schnabel and Calder Anderson.

A memorial service and celebration of Charlie’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Saint Lawrence Cathedral Chapel, 110 State St., Harrisburg, Pa.
