To make it easier for on-the-go consumers to plan their travels in Pennsylvania, visitPA.com -— the state’s tourism website — is now mobile device-friendly, the Pennsylvania Tourism Office has announced.
The site automatically recognizes smartphones and other mobile devices, allowing users to explore attractions and destinations and find places to stay within Pennsylvania. The site will use “geolocation” to tailor its recommendations to visitors.
“Pennsylvania’s mobile tourism website will follow in the footsteps of our online and social media initiatives, which cost-effectively communicate diverse and exciting tourism attractions to the largest possible audience,” said Rose Mape, executive director of the state’s Tourism Office.
Last year, visitPA.com saw a 34-percent increase in traffic from 2009, welcoming nearly 2 million web visitors — at least one from every U.S. state — and 130,000 international visitors. With the launch of a mobile version of visitPA.com, the Tourism Office anticipates a further increase in web traffic.
Among the site’s many interactive features is “Fantastic Roadtrip-a-Matic” (visitPA.com/Roadtrip), which boasts dozens of ready-to-ride PA road trips, promoting hundreds of unique Pennsylvania destinations and attractions.
“To maintain Pennsylvania’s status as a leading travel destination, we need to use technology to complement our online advertising and maximize our reach to potential visitors,” Mape said.
