Lohin
DALLAS — The outreach ministry Changing Habits will be holding a talent show at the Gate of Heaven school in Dallas on May 1.
The talent show will fund a scholarship for the school and is being held in memory of Anne Lohin, who was Changing Habits’ accompanist and who died of breast cancer in July.
Members of Changing Habits have fond memories of Lohin.
“Anne was the sort of person who you could know for two years, and felt like you knew her for 20,” said group member Kippie Morgan of Dallas.
Anna Winkler, also of Dallas, agreed. “She was one of the most gentle souls I ever met. She would almost glow with kindness and compassion and never dwelled on her problems but had compassion for others.”
Anne stood out for her perfectionist nature. “No one practiced (piano) as much as Anne. … She always had to play every note as written, not fudging as I often do,” wrote group member Marilyn O’Connell in Anne’s eulogy.
Anne also showed concern for the misfortunes of others, even as she herself battled cancer.
“My mom was going through cancer at the same time, and Anne expressed concern for her. She put everyone else first,” said Mary Beth Banos of Hughestown.
There is no charge to enter the event, but group members hope attendees will donate. The event will also feature baskets of goods that will be raffled off. Each group member is donating one basket, each with its own theme, such as garden supplies and kids’ toys.
Changing Habits has sought sponsors and performers by distributing fliers to Back Mountain churches and through word of mouth.
If you go
The fundraiser is being held at 3 p.m. May 1 at Gate of Heaven school gym in Dallas, where the late Anne Lohin had taught.
