HANOVER TWP. — A home surveillance camera recorded an elderly woman lying on a sidewalk outside her Solomon Street home being struck by items allegedly thrown by her niece, Isis Ann Brown, for nearly 90 minutes early Friday morning.
Brown, 34, was arrested after she allegedly threw a glass tray at a township police officer who stunned her with a Taser at 33 Solomon St.
The victim, Dorothy Koreny, 78, was transported to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township for head and facial injuries. She was upgraded from critical condition to serious condition late Friday afternoon, according to a hospital spokesperson.
A barefoot Brown said “No comment” when she was taken for an arraignment before District Judge Joseph Halesey in Hanover Township where she was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, criminal attempt to commit simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. She was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $50,000 bail.
State police Forensic Services Unit processed the scene for evidence. A blue tarp was placed on the front porch to protect evidence from rain Friday morning.
Detectives with the township and district attorney’s office canvassed the neighborhood discovering a neighbor had a surveillance camera that recorded the alleged assault.
According to the criminal complaint:
An officer responding to a domestic disturbance spotted Brown leaning over a porch railing throwing items at a woman lying on a sidewalk just before 7 a.m.
When Brown spotted the officer, she ran inside the residence.
The officer approached the front door as Brown exited the residence and threw a glass tray at the officer that missed him. Brown ran back into the residence and was stunned by a Taser.
Koreny told the officer Brown had assaulted her.
A neighbor’s surveillance camera recorded Brown “going in and out of the front door numerous times” beginning at about 5:30 a.m. The camera captured Brown bringing numerous objects out onto the front porch and throwing the objects at Koreny on the sidewalk, the complaint says.
Authorities recovered smashed figurines in a driveway across the street and a ceramic figurine outside Koreny’s home.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled on April 8.
