SCRANTON — The U.S. Attorney’s Office said an Edwardsville man pleaded guilty to sex trafficking of a teenage girl.

Travis Humphrey, 26, entered his plea Thursday before U.S. Judge Robert D. Mariani in Scranton.

Humphrey admitted he helped others recruit and transport a 16-year-old girl to motels in Pennsylvania and New Jersey to engage in commercial sex acts. He and the others rented motel rooms and posted “escort” advertisements and photographs on the website backpage.com during May 2013, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Humphrey faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison and possible maximum sentence of life in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for the week of Sept. 22, according to the US Attorney’s office.

A federal grand jury indicted Humphrey and his wife, Kyoni Humphrey in January as a result of an investigation by the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office, the Pennsylvania State Police and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations.

Kyoni Humphrey previously pleaded guilty to transporting a female to New Jersey from Pennsylvania to engage in prostitution.
