EDWARDSVILLE – A man who was arrested and handcuffed after police investigated a fight attempted to escape from the police department early Monday morning.

Luis Cruz, 22, of Stanton Street, Wilkes-Barre, was charged with simple assault, resisting arrest, escape, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $7,500 bail.
Police said they were investigating a large fight at an apartment on Main Street at about 2 a.m. Monday. Cruz was encountered inside the apartment and refused commands to stop yelling.
Police arrested Cruz on a disorderly conduct charge. While at the police department, police allege a handcuffed Cruz ran out the front door. He was captured across the street from the police department, according to the criminal complaint.
A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled on July 1 in Central Court.
