SWOYERSVILLE — The condition of Brook Street was a topic of discussion among council members at Monday night’s meeting.
Resident Kimberly Throop said the street was “a mess” and inquired into the possibility of its repair.
Brook Street residents said the borough had put “cold patch on cold patch,” with an unacceptable result. They expressed concern about access to the street by emergency vehicles.
“I don’t think its going to happen this year,” said Council President Ronald Alunni, “but we will try to come up with a future plan.”
Borough Secretary Gene Breznay said government funds now available for street repair were designated for areas with low- and moderate-income residents and could not be used on Brook Street.
In another matter, Councilman Joe Onzik, said the West Side Council of Governments was offering use of a vac truck, a street sweeper and an asphalt hot box for the cost of insurance and maintenance fees.
Onzik, who will be running to retain his seat on borough council as a “write-in” this November, said participation in the COG provided the borough with increased access to beneficial equipment and services.
Councilman Chris Concert asked council take a moment to honor John Brdaric, who recently lost his life in a demolition accident in the borough.
“He was a man of integrity who has done so much for the borough, its residents, and the county,” said Concert. He lauded Swoyersville and Forty Fort emergency responders for their efforts during the incident.
The next meeting of the council will be on Nov. 4 at 6:30 p.m.
