MANCHESTER, England — Local fighter Jimy Hettes of Swoyersville defeated Robert Whiteford by submission in two rounds in his UFC bout in the featherweight division on a fight card in England on Saturday.

The submission victory came in less than three minutes into the second round.

“I was hoping I’d land a few more punches, but he hits hard and I knew he was a tough guy, so I was just trying to get him on his back and put him in awkward positions,” Hettes said in an interview with mmajunkie.com after the fight. “It threw me for a loop to have such a late change of opponenets as they’re both so different. Beggars can’t be choosers, and I was just glad to have a fight.”

Hettes is now 11-1 in MMA and 2-1 in UFC.
