George Boiwka

    George Boiwka of RD 1 Fairmount Springs, Benton, died Sunday at the
Bloomsburg
   
Hospital following an illnessBorn June 13, 1914, in Plymouth, he was the
son of the late George Sr. and Mary Jaroscak Boiwka. He was a 1931 graduate of
Huntington Mills High School.
   
He had resided in Rutherford, N.J., for most of his life, returning to
Fairmount Springs in 1972.
   
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army with the 286th Joint
Assault Signal Company.
   
He was employed as a bus driver in New York City from 1939 to 1943, and
retired from the New York City Transit Authority as a subway motorman.
   
He was a member of St. Martha’s Church, Fairmount Springs.
   
He and his wife, the former Gizele cq Rusnak, celebrated their 57th wedding
anniversary on Sept. 26, 1994.
   
He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael, in 1992, and a sister, Mary
Kashatus, in 1951.
   
Surviving in addition to his wife are a brother, Joseph, Fairmount Springs;
sister, Lily Czapracki, Cohoes cq , N.Y.; several nieces and nephews.
   
Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from the George A. Strish
Funeral Home, 38 N. Main St., Shickshinny, with a Mass of Christian Burial at
10 a.m. in St. Martha’s Church, Fairmount Springs.
   
Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Fairmount Springs.
   
Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today.
   
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made at the funeral home for
Hospice St. John.
