January 24, 2000 arl Rittenhouse, 80, formerly of Hunlock Creek, died Monday
at East Mountain Manor, Plains Township. Born June 7, 1919, in Hunlock Creek,
he was the son of the late Ami and Ada (Cragle) Rittenhouse. He was a track
man for the Pennsylvania Railroad and attended Hunlock Creek United Methodist
Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Normandy, Northern
France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe, and received five Bronze
Stars. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Evelyn Hazleton.
Surviving are his daughters, Barbara Lengyel, Lake Ariel; and Lois Cragle,
Hunlock Creek; son, George, Swoyersville; seven grandchildren, four
great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be
at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Clarke Piatt Funeral Home, Inc., Hunlock Creek.
The Rev. Dean Walrath, of Hunlock Creek United Methodist Church, will
officiate. Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas. Friends may
call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
