DALLAS – The second of two fires that struck a Main Road home last week has
been ruled an arson by a state police fire marshal, borough fire Chief Brett
Slocum said Monday.

Three-quarters of the two-family house at 112 Main Road was engulfed when
crews arrived at about 12 a.m. Thursday.
Firefighters were at the home about eight hours earlier to battle a blaze
started when Wesley Lewis of Tunkhannock tried to thaw frozen pipes with a
propane torch, Slocum said. The fire spread up the walls to the attic but was
quickly contained by firefighters.

Last week, one resident said the house sustained minimal damage after the
initial fire, but nearly was gutted after the second.

Residents were restricted from returning to the home after the first fire.

Slocum said a criminal investigation was initiated after the ruling by Fire
Marshal Bernie Kizis of the Wyoming barracks.

A mother and baby lived in the lower level of the house. Two college
students lived in the upper level, officials said.
