WILKES-BARRE – City police Chief William Barrett said investigators will
meet with the state Office of Attorney General later this week to discuss a
crash involving former Luzerne County Sheriff Carl Zawatski’s car.

Barrett on Monday said state investigators will come to police headquarters
to discuss the early morning crash of Oct. 22.
Zawatski had told police he was driving and struck a utility pole on North
Washington Street when he swerved to avoid hitting a dog.

Police began an investigation after receiving tips that Zawatski’s
daughter, deputy sheriff Heather Zawatski, appeared intoxicated earlier at a
bar not far from the crash scene.
