January 23, 2000 hillip Simonton, of Wilkes-Barre, died Sunday at the
Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre. Born March 22,
1932, in Plains Township, he was a son of the late Joseph and Sadie (Gadomski)
Symeon. A 1951 graduate of GAR Memorial High School, he was a U.S. Marine
Corps veteran of the Korean War. He worked for the National Roofing Co.,
Wilkes-Barre. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, Wilkes-Barre, the
parish Holy Name Society, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 102,
Kingston. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Maureen Simonton;
brothers, Theodore, Adolph, Joseph, Edward and Chester; and sister, Claire
Stefanski. Surviving are his wife, the former Geraldine J. Coulter, with whom
he celebrated 42 years of marriage Jan. 10; sons, Phillip D. and Stephen, and
daughter, Bernice Mullen, all of Mountaintop; sisters, Estelle Foster,
Nescopeck; Josephine Brzozowski, Mountaintop; and Lottie Kalson, Kenmore,
N.Y.; brother, Peter Symelon, Detroit; four grandchildren and several nieces
and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the
Mamary-Durkin Funeral Home Inc., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial
at 11:30 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church. Interment will be in St. Mary’s
Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
