SCRANTON – Joanne Polakoski scored 29 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to
lead King’s College to a 73-68 over Marywood in women’s college basketball on
Monday.
   
It marked the 100th career victory for King’s head coach Bryan Whitten.
    The Monarchs (13-2) led 36-21 at halftime, but the Pacers (8-6) pulled
within two points in the final two minutes. King’s put the game away by
hitting six of seven foul shots down the stretch.
   
Denise Igo scored 17 points for the Monarchs. Melissa Barrett paced
Marywood with 25 points. College Misericordia 70 Alvernia College 66
   
DALLAS – Mary Rowlands and Sandy Olm each scored 14 points for the Cougars
as they defeated Alvernia College. Kristy Boyd scored 13 points while Colleen
Butcher added 12.
   
Alvernia was led by Tanisha Giddens with 23 points. Theresa Bray scored 16
points while Kelly Lauer contributed 12. Men’s Basketball Susquehanna 73
Scranton 65
   
SELINSGROVE – Hazleton Area graduate Rob Makarewicz led Susquehanna
University with 22 points as it defeated the University of Scranton.
   
The Royals (10-5) led 65-63 with 1:47 left in the game, but the Crusaders
(12-4) scored the final 10 points to pull out the victory.
   
Garett Thompson scored 13 points, Zigmas Kaknevicius added 12, and Corey
Green contributed 10 for Susquehanna, which rallied from an 11-point halftime
deficit.
   
Henry Condron led Scranton with 18 points. College Misericordia 64
Alvernia College 57
   
DALLAS – Willie Chandler led College Misericordia with 32 points as it
defeated Alvernia College. Jason Mailliard scored 11 points for the Cougars.
   
Keith Lambert scored 14 points for Alvernia. Marywood 65 Eastern College

ST. DAVID’S – Jeremy Schlear led Marywood with 26 points while breaking a
school record in a victory against Eastern College.
   
Schlear made eight three-point field goals to break the school record for a
single game. Marywood also set a school record of 13 three-pointers in one
game.
   
Men’s swimming Essex County College 88 King’s College 78
   
WILKES-BARRE – John Thompson won the 1,000 freestyle (12:54.93) and Mike
Costello took first in the 200 backstroke (2:19.15) as King’s dropped a 88-78
decision to Essex County College.
   
Chris Kulp, Parker Palermo and Gregg Wynn each posted two second-place
finishes for the Monarchs. Misericordia 99 Beaver College 83
   
DALLAS – Ed Halloran had first-place finishes in the 50 freestyle, 100
backstroke and 400 freestyle relay as Misericordia defeated Beaver College on
Saturday.
   
Steve Keim took first in the 100 breaststroke and 400 freestyle relay.
Albright 137 Scranton 66
   
SCRANTON – Albright College improved to 8-0 by beating the University of
Scranton on Saturday.
   
Mike Burns won the 1,000 freestyle (10:56.35) and the 500 freestyle
(5:17.39) for the Royals, and Brian Eberhardt captured first place in the 200
freestyle (1:54.16). Women’s swimming Misericordia 110 Beaver College 53
   
DALLAS – Kelley Flynn, Maureen Shovlin and Debbie Weidow each took three
firsts to lead Misericordia past Beaver College on Saturday.
   
Flynn finished first in the 200 medley relay, 1,000 freestyle and 500
freestyle. Shovlin won the 200 medley relay, 200 individual medley and 100
freestyle. Weidow scored firsts in the 200 medley relay, 100 butterfly and 100
backstroke.
   
Bridget Reardon added firsts in the 50 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay,
and Michelle Natale won the 100 breaststroke and 200 medley relay for the
Cougars. Albright 116 Scranton 89
   
SCRANTON – Albright College remained undefeated by handing the University
of Scranton its first loss of the season on Saturday.
   
Sarah Gazdalski and Jill Hamnett won two events each for the Lady Royals.
Gazdalski won the 100 butterfly (1:01.38) and the 100 backstroke (1:01.40),
while Hamnett took first in the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle (2:02.88)
   
Erin McNally finished first in the 1,000 freestyle (11:44.30) for the Lady
Royals. King’s College 61 Essex County College 61
   
WILKES-BARRE – Gretchen Krant captured first in the 200 freestyle (2:16.99)
and 500 freestyle (6:28.90) as King’s College tied Essex County College.
