January 19, 2000 osemarie Johnson, 70, of Eagle River, Alaska, died Jan. 19
at her home. Born Aug. 5, 1929, in Nanticoke, she was a daughter of the late
Joseph and Lillian Bednarek. A graduate of Huntington Mills High School, she
moved to Alaska in 1951 and was active in St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Eagle
River politics and the Alaskan Right To Life. Surviving are her husband,
Robert, with whom she celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary April 21;
children, Beverly Johnson, Merribelle Diaz, Curtis, Mark, Jeffrey and Gregory,
all of Eagle River; and Eric, Skwentna, Alaska; 15 grandchildren; sisters,
Lillian Sylvia, South Carolina; Phyllis Cross, Ohio; Patricia Dent,
Shavertown; and Carolyn Reider, Shickshinny; and brothers, Joseph,
Connecticut; and Martin, Benton. She was preceded in death by a sister,
Elizabeth; and brother, Richard. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m.
Wednesday in St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Eagle River. The Rev. Leo Walsh
will officiate. Interment will be in Alaska. Visitation and rosary will be at
6 this evening in St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. Arrangements are by the
Evergreens Eagle River Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations
may be made to St. Andrew’s Building Fund, or to the Alaskan Museum of Natural
History, Eagle River.
