I’M CALLING IN reference to the symbol on the top of the SAYSO column, what
is it exactly? I’m been trying to figure it out. EDITOR’S NOTE: It’s two
people talking to each other. HOW CAN MAYOR MCGROARTY turn his back to the
pile of poop at Goose Island, yet punish a man who had to urinate? He needs to
reprioritize. THIS AREA NEEDS a lot of public forums discussing the future
development of this region. The leadership of this region should take on the
responsibility to start these public forums. These forums will also give the
people a good idea on what ideas our leaders have for the future development
of this region. There should be a public forum at least once a month. ONE OF
THE KEY ELEMENTS to happiness is love, to show your love to someone else, to
show your love for a specific purpose, to show your love even to an animal.
The most fatal mistake a lot of people make is that they try to show their
love, but they love themselves first. This is all wrong. SIT BACK AND TAKE a
good hard look at the people who are slamming commissioner Urban, it’s called
“diversion.” THE VERY SAME GROUP of women who defended Anita Hill and were
outraged at the charges made against her were the same ones that turned around
and totally brutalized Paula Jones. I understand this National Organization of
Women has an agenda, but I can’t see what it is. THE RESIDENTS OF Luzerne
Borough will be waiting for a formal apology from the owners of (name of
business deleted). They have a new alarm system and last night they allowed
their alarm to go off for almost five solid hours until 6:30 this morning and
no one knew how to shut it off. ON YOUR ENLIGHTENING article in Wednesday,
Jan. 12, paper about the old Plains High School and the Wilkes-Barre Area
trying to claim title. They said that the building was never renovated because
it was too costly, and yet it’s being used everyday by the Luzerne
Intermediate Unit. How come it’s good enough for them, but it wasn’t good
enough to continue it as Plains Junior High School? That’s one question I’d
like answered. THOM GRECO’S COMMENTS in the Sunday paper concerning the
downfall of downtown being due to the arena is preposterous. I do believe the
downfall started with this flood, the advent of malls, the increase of crime,
the lack of parking, lack of decent stores, and the unwillingness of store
owners to stay open for the working folk to get downtown. ABOUT THE WISH for
more used book stores, there’s a terrific used bookstore in the Murray Complex
and a very nice young man there will help you find whatever you need at a
reasonable price. I go there all the time and I get lots of books. I SEE THE
TIMES Leader has become so politically motivated that you’re still pushing Mr.
Urban by the writing of your editorial today. I think it’s time everybody woke
up and saw the fact that Mr. Urban has already shown his true colors. He never
did have any intentions of doing anything for the people of the county. His
intentions are strictly for personal gain and personal political ambition. MAY
I OFFER A suggestion? With the flu season upon us germs are spread quickly and
seriously. If you feel a sneeze coming on and you don’t have a tissue or
handkerchief available, please turn your head and sneeze into you shoulder, do
not sneeze into your hands, because then they will be covered with germs. Very
simple. TIMES LEADER YOU lost so much credibility with me. A U.S. Senator
comes to town from Pennsylvania and you don’t have one article in the paper
about him, not a picture or anything. EDITOR’S NOTE: We try to cover our
visiting senators each time unless news dictates other uses of our resources.
If you’re referring to Rick Santorum, we ran a photograph of him announcing
his candidacy Jan. 12, and we ran a story Jan. 7 about his visit to our
editorial board. SOMEBODY OUGHT TO tell that store owner in Shickshinny that
Halloween is over. What’s with that clown dressed as a gorilla? I pay taxes
and it’s an eyesore. WE HERE IN PLAINS Township gave up too much of our
inheritance when we were forced to join the Wilkes-Barre Area School District.
Now we weren’t forced by anyone else except our school directors at the time
who said “we had no choice.” We did have a choice. If there was no choice
how come Dallas and Lehman never joined and a few others? WHY DOES THE ACCESS
ROAD going to the mall and the arena have plans of being shut down? It comes
from Exit 46 of 81 near Wegmans. Isn’t this a taxpayer road in Wilkes-Barre
Township or is it privately owned? Will there be a good access road opened to
this area if that one is closed? EDITOR’S NOTE: If you mean the small
blacktop road from Mundy Street beside Kaplan’s Furniture Warehouse Showroom
to the arena, that is an access road and closed when the arena is not hosting
an event. That road wasn’t built to handle constant traffic from Mundy Street
to Highland Park Boulevard. Eventually (probably this year), Mundy Street
will be rebuilt and connected to Highland Park Boulevard, giving drivers a
direct route from the mall to Coal Street and the city of Wilkes-Barre. THANK
GOODNESS someone finally put in about shaking hands in church. I don’t want to
shake hands with 10 people in a restaurant before I eat and I certainly don’t
want to do it in church, but boy do you get the bad looks. WE ARE NOW IN the
year 2000 and once again there will be many cases coming up before the courts
and the judges regarding children. Do not let the courts err in giving the
child to the biological mother, when they see there is something wrong with
the mother. Don’t let them take that chance and have another Dominique. We
have to end it now. Let the courts see this. WHY DO YOU PUT MONEY in your
checking account and it’s not credited for three to five days, and you put a
payment in at the same time and the payment gets charged $30? Why is it always
that the payment always gets credit before the money you put in your account?
There is something definitely wrong. EDITOR’S NOTE: Federal banking
regulations govern how long a bank may delay crediting a check deposit. I
HEAR THEY’RE going to chop down them cherry trees along the river in
Wilkes-Barre. Well they got no right to do that. If the flood waters come,
it’s the will of God. Don’t worry about the grotto because it’s on high
ground. CONCERNING SEWING MACHINE REPAIR. A guy named Steve has a shop in
Dorrance. Call him at 868-3296. STEVEN URBAN, the new county commissioner, is
possibly considering running for congress. I hope commissioner Urban
reconsiders. I voted for him, it was the first time I had voted in over 15
years. I really felt he could make a great difference in the corrupt county we
live in. Luzerne County needs you Commissioner Urban. Does anyone else out
there feel the same way? If so, call SAYSO. THE COMMENT by the Jackson
Township resident about the American Asphalt Company. It seems to be the same
old story, people buy houses next to highways, people buy houses next to
airports, people buy houses next to asphalt companies, and then all of a
sudden they say, hey the asphalt company has to move. The trouble with people
is that they’re trying to move everybody out because they think they have
rights. What about the people that were there first?
