HAZLETON – A Hazleton man allegedly held a gun to his wife’s head Monday
and threatened to kill her, police said.
Police arrested Joca Jovanov, 56, in connection with the incident at the
couple’s North Pine Street home.
He is charged with a felony count of aggravated assault and misdemeanor
charges of making terroristic threats, simple assault and recklessly
endangering another person.
Police said they confiscated nine guns during the arrest, ranging from
handguns to rifles and shotguns.
Joca Jovanov was arraigned before District Justice Joseph Zola and is being
held in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $75,000 cash
bail.
Joca Jovanov and his wife, Elizabeth Jovanov, were allegedly arguing Monday
afternoon when he ran into the dining room of their home and grabbed “a long
gun” from the corner, police said.
According to police:
Joca Jovanov then held the gun to his wife’s head with his finger on the
trigger and threatened to kill her. Joca Jovanov then lowered the gun, ran
into the bathroom and his wife ran to the Hazleton Police Department.
After calming Elizabeth Jovanov down, police responded to the couple’s
home, where they arrested her husband and took him into custody.
