Jan. 21, vs. Hershey Result: Penguins 7, Hershey 3 The Skinny: Coming off a
four-point game (two goals, two assists) against Rochester earlier in the
week, John Slaney follows with a five-point night in the Penguins’ largest
margin of victory ever. It also was the first time the Penguins scored seven
goals. Jan. 22, vs. Worcester Result: Worcester 4, Penguins 2 The Skinny:
After Tom Kostopoulos tied the game 1-1 early in the third, the IceCats score
the next two goals. Marty Reasoner scored twice for Worcester, including an
empty-net goal. Worcester goalie Brent Johnson made 29 saves. Jan. 25, vs.
Syracuse Result: The Skinny: Syracuse entered the game with a 4-1 record
against the Penguins and were second in the Empire Division, 19 points ahead
of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The Penguins beat Syracuse on Jan. 12 to end a
league-high nine-game losing streak. Jan. 28, at Hartford The Skinny: It is
the first of two meetings against the Wolfpack this season. Hartford is second
in the New England Division with a 23-15-5-1 record and 52 points. Derek
Armstrong leads the team with 46 points (14 goals, 32 assists) in 44 games.
Brad Smyth leads the team with 23 goals. Jan. 29-30, vs. St. John’s The
Skinny: The St. John’s Maple Leafs are the second worst team in the AHL ahead
of the Penguins by two points with an 11-28-4-2 record. The Penguins recorded
their first-ever point against St. John’s, a 2-2 tie on Oct. 13. David
Nemirovsky leads the team with 29 points (10 goals, 19 assists). Adam Mair is
second with 25 points (10 goals, 15 assists).
