A township man has been charged with drunken driving after a crash Sunday
evening on U.S. Route 11 near the West Nanticoke Bridge.
Police said Alfred Brocious of East Poplar Street smelled of alcohol, had
glossy eyes and slurred speech after a 6 p.m. multi-vehicle crash.
Police said Brocious, 42, failed a field sobriety test and was transported
to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital where he submitted to a blood-alcohol test.
No one was injured in the crash.

Driver unhurt as car rolls
A driver involved in a rollover crash on state Route 29 on Sunday afternoon
freed himself by cutting off his seat belt, police said.
Patrick Hayes, 23, of Larksville was northbound when he lost control of a
1994 Chevrolet pickup truck, police said.
The truck traveled off the roadway, up an embankment and rolled onto its
side. Hayes was not injured in the 3:15 p.m. crash.

Car runs into building
Police are investigating damage caused to a West Main Street business when
a car drove into a building late Friday or early Saturday.
Police said the owners of Air Excellence at 911 W. Main St. reported that a
vehicle damaged an exterior wall.

Assault on guard probed
State police at Wyoming said they are investigating an assault on a
corrections officer at the State Correctional Institution at Dallas.
Guard Edward Straka of Dallas was assaulted by an unnamed inmate Jan. 14 at
the prison, state police said.
Police said the investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
