I FIND IT VERY difficult reading your newspaper now with the new format. The
lines seem to run into each other and the print is so very light, it’s almost
faded. EDITOR’S NOTE: We have had some complaints about the type, but we’ve
received far more compliments. We hope you’ll get more used to the new format
with time. AFTER READING STEVE Corbett’s column today, I must say he did a
good one. I happen to agree. And if Nesbitt Hospital administrators had any
brains they would simply start talking settlement, because they don’t have a
prayer of winning this lawsuit. I HAVE TO compliment Adelphia Cable for TV
Land running “McHale’s Navy,” “Hogan’s Heroes” and “Jackie Gleason” and
“The Honeymooners.” The only problem is, I wish it would go prime time
against all these trashy dumbing down comedies. AFTER READING about the young
man from Kosovo who came here and is being given a free college education, I
can’t understand why someone would hop on Rocker for what he said. He only
told the truth. ALL KINDS OF people are getting bent out of shape because a
state chooses to fly a Confederate flag, it may be a Confederate flag but it
is an American flag. And what are the people of Florida doing about all those
Cubans flying Cuban flags? That to me is the issue. DOESN’T ANYONE in this
area or in the government and that includes senators understand the meaning of
the word “illegal?” That little boy belongs with his father. I suggest the
immigration authorities take the name and address of these Cuban protesters to
see how many of them are in this country illegally. I guarantee there will be
no more protests. Think about it. PEOPLE OF JACKSON Township, the stone
quarry you’re harping about was there long before you moved or built there.
End of story. THE JACKSON TOWNSHIP Planning Commission made a grave mistake
by recommending a change in the zoning to the supervisors. If they have
reviewed the previous zoning regulations, no way could they have voted for any
change. But what do they care? The four members that voted “yes” do not live
near American Asphalt and aren’t even bothered by the stone quarry.
MOUNTAINTOP SPORTSMEN. These are the real facts on the range. Representative
Hasay didn’t stick his fingers in the problem. The Game Commission goofed.
Dennison Township residents produced a petition with over 100 names against
it. The residents and supervisors went to court and are having a hearing in 30
days. Representative Hasay wants a compromise on a new site. Maybe the caller
would like the range next door to his home? HAS ANYONE NOTICED lately the
excessive cost charged by technicians coming to the home for appliance
maintenance and repairs. I have a maintenance agreement for appliances. They
came to my homes two times for routine maintenance. Fifteen minutes each
service call, each charge was $103. The technician said “don’t worry you’re
not paying this, it’s in you warranty.” All consumers are paying for this one
way or another. MY PASTOR CELEBRATES a very holy and special liturgy. I
attend the liturgy because I love it. Young babies crying doesn’t affect or
bother me, but older children who are out of control, that’s very annoying to
the pastor and the people who come to celebrate and pray the liturgy. CAN
SOMEONE PLEASE tell me what hold St. Jude’s School in Mountaintop has over the
Times Leader? It seems like day in and day out there is a letter from some
student in St. Jude’s School in Mountaintop. What’s the connection and why
play the favoritism? Other students write letters too. EDITOR’S NOTE:
Actually we’d welcome more letters from students. SOMETIME LATER this month a
dinner is being held to “honor” the new Crestwood superintendent. At the
dinner they should pass the collection plate to reimburse the taxpayers of the
Crestwood district for all the legal fees they had to pay for this guy in the
last 20 years. A GOOD IDEA to slow down immigration in this country is to
pass a bill in congress that for every person that leaves this country one is
allowed in. HOW ABOUT PITTSTON Area School Board at their meeting talking
about commercial entities and residentials seeking appeals on their taxes, and
they said it’s putting the school in a financial bind. Actually, school
directors like Val Delia, Augie Piazza, Tony Rostock, Jim O’Brien and Bill
Balchune put the people at serious risk of financial ruin, with the high taxes
and the way they raised our school taxes, then they say we don’t have the
right to make appeals because we hurt them? I’D LIKE TO KNOW where we can get
old reel to reel movie film that we have of family movies converted into video
movies? If somebody knows who we can contact and how this is done, I’d
appreciate it. EDITOR’S NOTE: Take a look in the Yellow Pages under “Video
Production Services.” TO THE PERSON that called in and said Clinton and his
family went to Colorado skiing and spent $6 million. How do you know they
spent $6 million? TO THE KOREAN VETERAN who doesn’t like Cuban flag flying
down in Florida? Well hello, isn’t that why you were a veteran to help us keep
our freedom? Isn’t this the United States of America? Hello? Those people have
the right to fly their homeland flag. I REALLY ENJOY the funnies, they make
my day every morning. But it’s bad enough we lost “Peanuts” to be replaced
by “Heart Of The City” and “Six Chixs” we can really do without those two.
Whatever happened to “Calvin and Hobbes?” Now that was a great comic.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Calvin’s author quit drawing the strip. THE SYSTEM IS upside
down. Schools are closed because of hazardous conditions. Hazardous conditions
don’t affect private sector, you must report for work. One engages in healthy
habit and exercise, and after work I try to exercise at my health club, only
to find seven educators occupying all the running and stair stepping machines,
and 4,000 kids running and playing all over this place. If conditions are such
to close schools, how do all of those people from all over make it to the
Kingston rec center for workouts and play. That would be an interesting story.
What do people do when the schools are closed? I’M A SWOYERSVILLE resident
and I’m calling to find out why the road conditions in Swoyersville are so
poor? All the towns around us has clean, dry streets now and we still have 4
inches of snow on every road in town except Slocum Street which the state
salts it and everything. What am I paying taxes for? WHY IS IT that all the
good jobs go to Scranton or Hazleton? Do we really have a no-growth chamber?
HOW MANY WILKES-BARRE Area School Board directors and their families are going
to Florida in April, because as a taxpayer, I am outraged. TO THE GIRL that
doesn’t believe in the death penalty: If you had a relative that was killed by
somebody, I think you would believe otherwise. I had an uncle that was killed
25 years ago. A man shot him and also shot his own wife. My uncle left four
young children under 10 years old. I believe in the death penalty. As
taxpayers, we’re paying for the people to stay in prison. I JUST RECENTLY
came back to the Wilkes-Barre area – “the valley with a heart.” I had reason
to venture into Wyoming to get a haircut. While I parked my $42,000 Grand
Cherokee Limited Edition in a parking lot, a very well maintained parking lot
in broad daylight at noon, I came out of the hair stylist’s to find an elderly
man peeing on the fender to my Jeep. When I asked him what he was doing, he
told me he couldn’t make it to the bathroom fast enough. AS A LARKSVILLE
resident, I can’t believe what I read on Jan. 19. Councilman George Dervinis
had to step down because he owns a tavern. This tavern has more police calls
than Carter has liver pills. Now he wants to run again for Valley West school
director – a job he had and got voted out by the people. I HAD TO TAKE my dog
to the Animal Emergency Clinic in Avoca. And, of course, the inevitable
happened – he had to be put to sleep; which since he is my baby, my life, I
was devastated. These people are the nicest, kindest, sympathetic people I
have ever seen. They sent me a beautiful sympathy card with a picture on it
that was made to look just like my Max. I wish to thank them for everything
they did and for the sorrow that I went through, they were very, very
sympathetic. LAFLIN ROAD, I can’t believe that a road like this exists today.
Maybe the newly-elected Jenkins Township supervisor, who was also appointed
the general road foreman of the township, can make this one of his top
priorities. Thank you. NOW THAT YOU’VE printed LCC’s 134 faculty salaries,
why don’t you print the administrators’ salaries? Ask why there is almost one
administrator for every faculty. Also, try to find out why the college
contributes more to administrators’ retirement than to the faculty’s
retirement.
