ONLY PENN STATE would hire a dinosaur like Joe Paterno for another five
years. The game has passed him by completely. He cost Penn State a national
championship this year; how many more will he cost in the future? They need to
get a younger person who knows a little bit more about the game. I’M READING
WHERE they’re having World Federation Wrestlers in the new arena. Boy Kevin
Blaum, there’s some great family entertainment. Editor’s note: It’s World
Championship Wrestling. MORE HOCKEY COVERAGE, more hockey coverage, more
hockey coverage please. And to the guy that doesn’t want hockey coverage: move
to Hawaii. I THINK IT’S time for Joe Paterno to give some young guy a chance
like he got back in the ’50s. I think he should retire because Bear Bryant
retired from Alabama and it took them a long time to get that team back to the
recognition they used to have. There’s gonna be a building process but if he
doesn’t retire soon, it’s going to be longer than all you Penn State people
expect. THIS IS IN regards to Jerry Kellar’s column on Rene Portland allowing
her family to cheer against Penn State at a Penn State game. What other kind
of person would befriend Bobby Knight? That man is an absolute jerk. I
wouldn’t expect anything else out of his friends, especially his close
friends. ON WEDNESDAY, `LOOKING back, Looking ahead’ in the Penguin Power
Play section, I think the teams don’t match the emblems. You have Hershey and
you have the Crunch, you have the Syracuse and you have the Phantoms emblem,
you got Hartford and you got Providence, you got St. John’s and you have the
Phantoms emblem. Editor’s note: You’re right. We made a mistake. THIS IS FOR
all you goof balls worried about Joe Paterno for five more years: Well, you’re
going to be eating your words because I guarantee a national championship
within those five years. You’re not true Penn State fans, so go to Notre Dame.
JERRY KELLAR SEEMS to have appointed himself the person in charge of the Lady
Lions basketball games. Once you buy a ticket, go through the gym doors, you
can root for either team. You could also dress in the color of your choice. I
think we still have freedom of choice, even if it doesn’t fit Jerry Kellar’s
standards. I’M CALLING IN regards to Jerry Kellar’s article today regarding
the Penn State women’s basketball coach and how her sons root for Bobby Knight
and Indiana. I think this is the stupidest article I’ve ever read in my life.
The last time I checked, it is a free country and you can root for whoever you
want to. I went to Syracuse and I’m a Penn State fan and rooted for Penn State
when they came into the dome. That was my choice and I don’t consider myself
disrespectful to the school. If they’re friends with Bobby Knight, why not
root for them? They’ve probably been fans of Indiana longer than they’ve been
at Penn State. I applaud them for being loyal instead of being fake. I LIKE
READING the sports section in the Times Leader to see scores and other items
of highlights. I don’t read the sports section to see who’s on the academic
list, who got arrested and who did what. How about if we keep the academic
lists and stuff like that in a different section of the paper? Just because
they’re an athlete doesn’t mean they should always be put in the sports
section. The sports section is supposed to be just for scores and other items
of interest. MR. PATERNO NEEDS to retire. My family and I have been Penn
State fans for many, many years but I think it’s time for him to go. Would
somebody please get this message to him? I SEE WHERE they got a new A.D. at
Bishop O’Reilly High School, which is nice. I hope now, with the new A.D.,
they’ll get rid of the current basketball coaches at least for next year and
put somebody else in there.
