January 26, 2000 oward J. Fear Jr., 88, of Parke Street, West Pittston, died
Wednesday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township. Born,
Dec. 27, 1911, in Scranton, he was the son of the late Howard J., Sr., and
Mary Ann (Shotton) Fear. He graduated from West Pittston High School, Wyoming
Seminary School of Business, and the Penn State Extension and attended
International Correspondence School. He worked for PP&L, Scranton, until
retiring in 1975. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member
of The First United Methodist Church, West Pittston, where he was church
treasurer and a member of the Board of Trustees and the church choir. Active
in various civic organizations throughout the community, he was past president
of the Pittston Kiwanis Club and a former member of the West Pittston School
Board. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Carolyn Fear and Cathran J.
Fear. Surviving are his wife, the former Doris Evans; daughters, Carol
Richards, Durham, N.C,; and Sally Zemanek, Newton; four grandchildren, two
great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be
at 11 a.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church, West Pittston. The
Rev. Robert J. Herrala will officiate. There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are by the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, West Pittston. Memorial
donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, West Pittston.
