We’re almost into February, and things are really buzzing in the Back
Mountain area.

The Daddow-Isaacs American Legion Post 672 will hold its 40th annual Pig
Roast at 5 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 5. The post’s chefs don’t roast a whole pig
anymore, but the menu still includes roast pork, as well as stuffing, gravy,
mashed potatoes, salad, dessert and beverages. Serving will be from 5-8 p.m.,
followed by dancing from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. to easy-listening music by American
Flyer. Tickets are $6.50 and are available at the Post Home. For more

The Lake-Lehman High School senior class will hold its traditional Donkey
Basketball game between the senior class and the faculty at 7:30 p.m., Friday,
in the high school gym. At 6:30 p.m. the senior girls will play the senior
boys, who will wear boxing gloves in a fun and unique game.

Cadette Scouts from Girl Scout Troop 655 will sell Girl Scout cookies from
10 a.m to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 5-6 at Thomas’ Market in the Back
Mountain Shopping Center, Shavertown. They’ll also sell them from 4-9 p.m.
Friday and Saturday, Feb. 4-5, at Grotto Pizza at Harveys Lake. You also can
order Girl Scout cookies by calling 1-888-6KOOKIE. Each box costs $3 and eight
varieties are available. Profits from the cookie sales help fund troop
activities.

Ice anglers might be interested in the Nanticoke Conservation Club’s Ice
Fishing Derby from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at Moon Lake Park,
Route 29, Plymouth Township. Youth and adults can compete for prizes for the
heaviest bass, trout, perch, bluegill and crappie. The entry fee is $5 for
adults. Kids under 16 are free. The rain or thin ice date will be Saturday,
Feb. 12.

Friendly’s Restaurant, Dallas, is hosting a Dallas High School Graduation
2000 night from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, in conjunction with the Dallas High
School Parent-Teacher-Student Organization. Friendly’s will donate 10 percent
of the proceeds toward the PTSO’s Graduation 2000 program and the senior
lock-in party planned for graduation night.
A “Don’t Forget to Call” Valentine contest will be run at the school Feb.
7-11. Dallas High School Graduation 2000 phone cards, packaged for Valentine’s
Day, will be available in the guidance office for $10 each. The homeroom
selling the most phone cards will win a Valentine’s Day breakfast party,
prepared by Frank Galicki, principal, and Paul Reinert, assistant principal.
The Graduation 2000 committee is planning a community pancake breakfast at
the high school in March. Chairpersons have been already appointed, but
volunteers are needed for setting up, cooking or cleanup. Contact any

sign up.

All parents and community members who want to help keep our teens safe on
graduation night are invited to participate.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for Sister Andre’s Birthday Party for
the Poor from 8 p.m. to midnight, Feb. 5 at College Misericordia’s Merrick
Hall. For eight years, Andre Dembowski, RSM, has celebrated her birthday by
inviting friends and the community to a fun night of music, dancing and
socializing for people age 21 and over. The D.J. will be Michael Calore.
Instead of bringing presents, Sister Andre asks guests to make donations to
one of the many women’s and children’s projects run by the Sisters of Mercy.
