WILKES-BARRE TWP. – Three Luzerne County men on Wednesday waived their
preliminary hearings on charges of rolling boulders down an embankment near
the arena in November.
Jason T. Caboot, 22, of East Bennett Street, Kingston, Wardan Wesley Jr.,
32, of Roosevelt Street, Edwardsville, and Randal Shovlin, 25, of Scott
Street, Wilkes-Barre, will stand trial in the Luzerne County Court of Common
Pleas on charges of propulsion of missles onto an occupied vehicle. Caboot and
Wesley are brothers, state police said.
District Justice Bernard Hendrzak, of Wilkes-Barre Township, said the men
were released on their own recognizance after waiving their preliminary
hearings.
Caboot also is charged with four counts of recklessly endangering another
person and simple assault, and one count of disorderly conduct. Wesley and
Shovlin each face a charge of disorderly conduct.
The men admitted rolling rocks down an embankment onto the new Exit 46
on-ramp of Interstate 81, just off Highland Park Boulevard after a hockey game
on November 24, state police said.
Police said the men were riding all-terrain vehicles that night, and Caboot
rolled a 200-pound boulder that struck a 1994 Honda Civic, injuring four
people.
Jason Vasilakos, 23, the driver of the car, suffered a broken arm. His
front seat passenger, Cara Scheirer, 21, suffered a fractured skull. She said
recently that she has plates and screws in her skull. Two other passengers,
Carolyn Cole and Chad Gough received scrapes and bruises, state police said.
