Don Pablo’s, 821 Commerce Blvd., Dickson City. 961-3484. In the style of food
prepared by Mexican ranch cooks for Texas cowboys. Tortilla soup and fajita
salad pepita are preferred. Steak was tough. Sopapilla and apple pie were good
desserts. Service was as uneven as the quality of the food. (Reviewed Jan. 21)
Mike Dubatto’s Library Restaurant, 615 E. Broad St., Hazleton. 455-3920. Try
polenta cake. Soups are a must. Among entrees, order Chilean sea bass in a
mustard crust or juicy rack of lamb. Outstanding tiramisu. Pass on the
unexciting lemon layer cake. (Reviewed Jan. 14) Northeastern Pennsylvania
Arena and Convention Center, Highland Boulevard, Wilkes-Barre Township.
Nothing is cheap. The crudite platter is the best deal, the bratwurst platter,
the worst. Generally, if it’s wrapped in foil it seems pretty fresh. (Reviewed
Jan. 7) Rinaldi’s, 405 S. Main St., Old Forge. 451-0433. Hidden behind
Blockbuster Video, yet reservations are still advised. Soups are heavenly. Try
risotto or spicy homemade sausage. (Reviewed Dec. 31) Stax & Co., 1174 Route
415, Dallas. 675-7007. Newly refurbished industrial motiff draws crowds.
Chicken cacciatore soup, a Steam plant chicken sandwich and Twin Towers
stacked filets are winners. (Reviewed Dec. 24) Casuals on the Creek, 162 Union
St., Plains Township. 819-3278. The basics; shrimp, onion rings, house salad,
steaks. Sharp service. (Reviewed Dec. 17) Farley’s, 300 Adams Ave., Scranton.
346-3000. Downtown restaurant has food to match the ambience. Lightly toasted
ravioli as an appetizer. Chicken cordon bleu was sublime. Warmed caramel apple
crumb pie, topped with Blue Ribbon vanilla ice cream took top honors.
(Reviewed Dec. 10) Robert Christians, Route 940, east of Blakeslee. 646-0433
Soups? Hearty chicken and vegetable, or stout potato cheese. Entrees? Rack of
baby lamb. Dessert? Carrot or hazelnut cakes. (Reviewed Dec. 3) Sequoyah
House, 68 Broadway, Jim Thorpe 325-8824. Imaginative organic restaurant. Try
creamed curry squash soup, fried sheep’s cheese or the vegetable stew called
locros. (Reviewed Nov. 26) Colarusso’s, Main Street, Avoca. 457-8133. First
rate, Italian restaurant fare: meatballs, veal and peppers, Old Forge-style
pizza. Pass on ordinary calamari. Prompt service. (Reviewed Nov. 19)
