January 26, 2000 enry S. “Hank” Karboski Sr., 81, of Union Street, Pittston,
died Wednesday at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains
Township. Born in Nanticoke, he was a son of the late Steve and Anna (Hawaj)
Karboski and attended Pittston schools. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World
War II. He had worked in the area mines and was a member of Sacred Heart of
Jesus Church, Duryea; the parish Holy Name Society; Church Hill Rod and Gun
Club, Pittston; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1227, Duryea. He was
preceded in death by his first wife, the former Anna Remsky. Surviving are his
second wife, the former Dorothy Marcinko; sons, Leonard and Frank, both of
Pittston; daughter, Ann Marie Chernouskas, Pittston; seven grandchildren;
three great-grandchildren; brother, Ted Karrow, Delaware; sister, Jennie
Urmano, Boiceyville, N.Y.; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11
a.m. Saturday from the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home, Inc., Duryea, with a
Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
Interment will be in St. Casimir’s Cemetery, Pittston. Friends may call from 2
to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. VFW Post 1227 will conduct services Saturday
morning. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Church Hill
Rod and Gun Club; or St. Ann’s Median, c/o St. Ann’s Monastery, Scranton.
