WILKES-BARRE – American Red Cross officials are urging Wyoming Valley
residents to donate blood to help reverse a shortage caused by the holidays
and the recent flu outbreak.
Donors can give blood from 9 to 3 p.m. today or 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at
the Wilkes-Barre donor site, 29 New Commerce Boulevard in the Hanover
Industrial Park. On Monday, collections will be taken from 1 to 6 p.m. at St.
Paul’s Church, 315 South Mountain Boulevard, Mountaintop.
A Red Cross spokeswoman said the region needs to collect about 400 units of
blood each day to serve the 40 area hospitals. On Tuesday, only 86 units were
collected.
To give blood, you must be at least 17 years old, weigh 105 pounds and be
in general good health.
