January 28, 2000 acob J. Guydish Jr., of West Green Street, West Hazleton,
died Friday at his home. Born in West Hazleton, he was a son of the late Jacob
and Mary (Hudock) Guydish. He resided in the West Hazleton area his entire
life. Before his retirement, he was employed by the R.A. Guydish Plumbing and
Heating Contractors. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic
Church, West Hazleton; the parish Holy Name Society; the Disabled American
Veterans Pennsylvania Chapter 3; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 08253. He
was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Middle Eastern and Italian
theaters of operations. He was in the Tunisian, Sicilian, Naples-Foggia and
Rome-Arno campaigns. He received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and
Distinguished Unit Badge. He was discharged as a technical sergeant. Surviving
are his wife, the former Mary Bayzik, to whom he had been married 52 years;
children, Jacob, III, York; Mary Lou Steppling, Columbia, S.C.; Raymond, West
Hazleton; Deborah, Pittsburgh; Michael, at home; Joseph, Palo Alto, Calif.;
Mark, West Hazleton; Timothy, San Francisco; and Gregg, West Hazleton; six
grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son,
Andrew; granddaughter, Kayne Steppling; brothers, Daniel, Raymond and John;
and sisters, Mary Lawrence, Helen Yesenofski, Elizabeth Jasinowski and Cecelia
Andrasi. Funeral services will be from the John J. Pusti Funeral Home,
Hazleton, at a time to be announced. Interment will be in Calvary Roman
Catholic Cemetery, Drums, Butler Township.
