January 27, 2000 Janet R. Loughney, of Poole Street, Pittston Township, died
Thursday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township. Born in
Pittston Township, she was a daughter of the late William and Jennie (Reardon)
Loughney. She was a graduate of St. John the Evangelist High School, Pittston;
and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Wilkes-Barre and was a scholarship
student in anesthesiology at St. Francis Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was an
anesthetist at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and the
Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre. She was chief of
her department at the medical center until she retired in 1982. She
coordinated Act II of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston. In 1982, she
was named to Who’s Who in American Women. Surviving are her sister, Marion
Loughney, with whom she resided; and numerous cousins. Funeral services will
be at 9 a.m. Monday from the Recupero Funeral Home, West Pittston, with a Mass
of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church. Interment
will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and
7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
