January 28, 2000 ohn D. Blannett Jr., of Sharpe Street, Kingston, died Friday
at his home. Born in Courtdale, he was a son of the late John D. and Rose
(Hodnutt) Blannett Sr. A Kingston resident for 52 years, he was a graduate of
Luzerne High School and Wilkes College, where he earned a degree in accounting
in 1958. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with Co. C., 6th
Ranger Battalion Infantry in the Pacific Theater. Before his retirement, he
worked American’s Store Warehouse, Forty Fort; was produce manager for Acme
Market, Gateway Shopping Center, Kingston; and was sexton for the Wyoming
United Methodist Church. He was a member and lay minister of the Dorranceton
United Methodist Church, Kingston; a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post 396, Kingston, and American Legion Post 395, Kingston; scout master for
Boy Scout Troop 166, Kingston, where he was awarded the Silver Beaver, the
highest award in scouting; one of the founders of the Kingston Little League
and a volunteer at the Al Beech Food Bank, Kingston. Surviving are his wife of
52 years the former, Lea Wildoner; sons, Dr. John D., III, Philadelphia;
Robert S., Ormond Beach, Fla.; William B., Kingston; and Thomas L., West
Pittston; seven grandchildren; sisters, Eloise Bowman, Haskell, N.J.; and
Rosella Blannett, Courtdale; brother, Ralph Blannett, San Luis Obispo, Calif.;
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters. Funeral
services will be at 11 a.m. Monday from the Metcalfe & Shaver Funeral Home,
Inc., Wyoming. The Rev. Michael Willis will officiate. Interment will be in
Memorial Shrine Park, Carverton. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Al Beech
Food Bank, c/o Church of Christ Uniting, Kingston; or Dorranceton United
Methodist Church, Kingston.
