January 28, 2000 aura A. Smith, 85, formerly of South Main Road, Wright
Township, died Friday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born Aug. 28, 1914, in
Mauch Chunk, she was a daughter of the late Robert A. and Laura (Richards)
Nicholas. Before moving to Mountaintop 67 years ago, she resided in Bayonne,
N.J., and was a graduate of Bayonne High School. She was a licensed insurance
agent and secretary for her husband in the operation of the Carl N. Smith
Insurance Agency, Mountaintop. She was a member of the Mountaintop
Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School
teacher. She and her husband celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary Nov.
12. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are her daughter, Helen Rachel
Goyne, and Judith Aton, both of Mountaintop; and Laura Jones, Dorrance; son,
Howard A., Dorrance; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and sister,
Louise Sachs, Toms River, N.J. She was preceded in death by sons, George and
John. A memorial service will be at a later date, with interment in the Albert
Cemetery, Wright Township. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations
may be made to the memorial fund of the Mountaintop Presbyterian Church.
