January 27, 2000 uke Franklin Whitebread Sr., 90, of Carbon Street,
Weatherly, formerly of Rice Township, died Thursday at Hazleton General
Hospital. Born Sept. 4, 1909, in Slocum Township, he was a son of the late
Miner and Verda (Miller) Whitebread. He attended Slocum schools and was a coal
miner for 21 years for three area coal companies. He was also a farmer and
lumberman and was last employed by the Crestwood School District. He lived in
Weatherly the past four years. He was preceded in death by sisters, Rachel May
Whitebread and Emma Faull. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, the former Ruth
Buff; daughter, Lollina Englehart, Weatherly; sons, Luke F., Jr., Chagrin
Falls, Ohio; and Morgan, Bethlehem; 10 grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday from the
McCune Funeral Home, Mountaintop. The Rev. Bruce J. Gallup, of Christ United
Methodist Church, Mountaintop, will officiate. Interment will be in Slocum
Cemetery, Slocum Township. Friends may call from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
