January 26, 2000 eter C. Valentukonis, of Miller Street, Luzerne, died
Wednesday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born in Plymouth, he was a son of
the late Matthew and Lucy (Shukis) Valentukonis and a 1936 graduate of
Plymouth High School. Before his retirement in 1981, he worked at Topps
Chewing Gum, Inc., Duryea. He was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic
Church, Swoyersville. Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret Haraschak;
son, Richard, at home; brothers, William, Willow Grove; and Anthony,
Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters, Sister Aloysia, Sisters of Jesus Crucified,
Brockton, Mass.; Julia Carroll, Middletown; and Helen Palermo, Bensalem;
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Matthew, Charles
and Joseph; and sister, Marie Javage. Private funeral services will be at 9:30
a.m. today from the Lehman-Gregory Funeral Home, Inc., Swoyersville; with a
Mass of Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. in St. Nicholas Byzantine Church,
Swoyersville. Interment will be in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville. There will
be no calling hours.
