January 27, 2000 illiam Evans, of East Carey Street, Plains Township, died
Thursday at Hospice Care of the VNA, Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre. Born in
Plains Township, he was a son of the late John and Mary (Kapines) Evans and
was a lifelong township resident. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II,
having served in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine
Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre, and was educated in St. Mary School. He worked
at Bess Goldsmith, Craft’s Associates and Leslie Fay. He was preceded in death
by his sister, Mary Shovlin; brother, Bernard; and granddaughter, Megan Evans.
Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret Jennings; daughter, Karen
Bartosiewicz, Harding; son, William B., Plains Township; four grandchildren;
brothers, John and Cyril, both of Plains Township; sister, Christine Wincek,
Trenton, N.J. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Monday from the Yeosock
Funeral Home, Plains Township, with Divine Liturgy at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s
Byzantine Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary’s
Cemetery, Plains Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Sunday. A Parastas service will be at 3 p.m. with the Rev. James Demko
officiating.
