The Ice Palace at Damenti’s Restaurant on state Route 309 in Butler
Township nears completion Saturday as workers finish carving the 14- by
31-foot castle. Restaurant owner Kevin McDonald and several volunteer ice
sculptors used 38,000 pounds of ice to make the castle, the first of which was
created in 1986 as a birthday gift for McDonald’s daughter, Lauren. McDonald
has 14 years of ice carving experience, and with assistance from private
donors, began constructing the 15th annual palace on Wednesday.
