Hirings/Promotions
PP&L: Bryce L. Shriver, who has served as general manager of the
Susquehanna Steam Election Station nuclear power plant since summer, has been
appointed vice president-nuclear site operations.
He has responsibility for site operations at the nuclear plant in Salem
Township near Berwick. He also has served with the Tennessee Valley Authority
and the Virginia Power Company. He holds a bachelor’s degree and a doctorate
in metallurgical engineering and a master’s degree in nuclear engineering, all
from the University of Missouri-Rolla, and a Master of Business Administration
degree from Averett College, Danville, Va. Also, Robert G. Byram, senior vice
president and chief nuclear officer, will devote his full time to the
Susquehanna plant. He has responsibility for implementing the company’s
strategy to move the plant into the top quartile in industry performance
within two years.
PARENTE TECHNOLOGY TEAM: Dennis J. Coval has joined the firm as a
telecommunications consultant specializing in call center management.
He served as director of call center operations for Kingdom Vacations. An
Old Forge resident, he holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration
from Marywood University.
MERCY HEALTH PARTNERS: Sean McAndrew has been named regional director of
medical records.
He has served as an assistant vice president at Marian Community Hospital.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in medical records administration from York
College of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in health administration from
the University of Scranton. A Shavertown resident, he is certified as a
registered record administrator through the American Health Information

MERCY FOUNDATION: The following area residents have been appointed to the
foundation’s first board of trustees: Monsignor Andrew J. McGowan, foundation
chair; Sandy Insalaco, foundation vice chair; Sister Mary Ellen Fuhrman,
foundation secretary/treasurer; Dr. Douglas Klamp; Sister Maureen McCann, RSM;
Ann Moskovitz; Mary Siegel; John L. Nespoli; and Maryla Peters.
The foundation was established to promote the mission of the Sisters of
Mercy throughout the region.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL of Northeastern Pennsylvania: Executive
Director Howard J. Grossman has been appointed by Gov. Tom Ridge to the
Pennsylvania Rural Development Council Board of Directors. Training
MCDONALD’S: Two area employees have earned bachelor of hamburgerology
degrees for completing the advanced operations course at the corporation’s
Hamburger University:
Sandra Hearst is a manager at the Wilkes-Barre Township Boulevard
location. Joye B. Pimm is a manager of the restaurant at 180 Memorial Hwy.,
Shavertown. Awards/Honors
GALLAGHER AND GALLAGHER MARKETING AND ADVERTISING: The Stroudsburg firm has
been named a national finalist in two categories in the 1999 Vision Awards
Competition.
A commercial created for Pocono Wellness Center was honored in the
“services” category. A video presentation for the Monroe County Municipal
Waste Management Authority was selected in the “non-broadcast, educational”
category.
MERCY SPECIAL CARE HOSPITAL, NANTICOKE: A retired surgeon and the hospital
auxiliary recently were honored.
Dr. Dennis J. Zeveney Jr., general surgeon, was honored for years of
service. He recently retired after working in Wilkes-Barre and Nanticoke. The
auxiliary was presented a special Millennium Citation at its annual Christmas
luncheon for outstanding service, support and assistance. Noteworthy
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL OF NORTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA: The Council was
recently evaluated under new procedures of the Economic Development
Administration and was found “to be a well-run organization, with a very
supportive board of directors, a very capable staff and exemplary community
partnerships.”
The council was the first Pennsylvania economic district to be reviewed
under the new guidelines.
