January 29, 2000 eonore (Kauffman) Smulowitz, of Scranton, died Saturday at
her home. Born in West Chester, she was a daughter of the late William Joseph
and Rebecca (Rezumny) Kauffman. She was a longtime member of Youth Aliyah,
vice president of the Scranton Chapter of Hadassah for 61 years, and an active
volunteer in the community. She was a four-time chairwoman of the Women’s
Division of the United Jewish Appeal, treasurer of the Bella Cohen College
Scholarship Memorial Fund, and a member of Temple Israel, Scranton. She was
preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Theodore. Surviving are her
daughter, Ruth Schwartz, Villanova; son, Bill, Kingston; five grandchildren;
eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at
1 p.m. today in the Ziman Funeral Home, Inc., 612 E. Gibson St., Scranton,
with services by Rabbi David Geffen and Cantor Vladimir Aronzon. Interment
will be in Temple Israel Cemetery, Dunmore. Shiva will be from 7 to 9 tonight
and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at her residence, 848
Clay Ave., Scranton. Memorial donations may be made to the Scranton Chapter of
