A new name has been added to the list of outstanding Nanticoke Area
Trojanette basketball players who have scored more than 1,000 points in their
high school careers. Senior Heather Roback entered Friday night’s game against
the Berwick Lady Bulldogs needing just 13 points to attain the milestone. That
point would come on a foul shot with 6:40 remaining in the game, giving the
Trojanettes a 45-33 lead. When the ball went in the basket and the buzzer
sounded, family, friends and teammates spilled onto the floor of the Sylvester
Bozinski Gymnasium at Greater Nanticoke Area High School with bouquets of
flowers, balloons and well wishes. “This is a great honor. I couldn’t have
done it without my teammates,” said Heather following the game. Nanticoke Area
coach Jack Rentko added “Heather is an outstanding player. She does great
things for us. The team feeds off of her. As Heather goes, the team goes. She
is a really nice player.”

Through the first half of the season, Heather ranked as the third leading
scorer in Wyoming Valley Conference’s Division II, and the leading scorer on
the Trojanettes, averaging 15.5 points per game. Heather’s 15 points, combined
with a 22 point performance by teammate Jen Blasi (with four three-point
goals) gave the Trojanettes a 55-43 win over Berwick, and put the Trojanettes
in a tie with Hanover Area for the top spot in Division II. JIM GAVENUS 1:
