January 30, 2000 alvert E. “Jack” Birnstock, 81, of Huntsville Road,
Dallas, died Sunday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born in Wrightsville, he
was the son of the late Karl and Esther (Lentz) Birnstock. He was educated in
Wrightsville schools and resided in Dallas the past 45 years. Before retiring,
he was an air conditioning and refrigeration mechanic for Power Engineering,
Wilkes-Barre. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Kunkle
United Methodist Church; George M. Dallas Lodge 531, F&AM; and Daddow Isaacs
American Legion Post 672, Dallas; and a charter member of the Kunkle Fire Co.
and the Steamfitters, Pipefitters, and Plumbers United Association Local 524,
Scranton. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, the former Lana “Sis” Elston;
daughters, Jo Carol Buckley, Dallas; Jane Cummings, Mountaintop; and Janet
Molesky, Shavertown; eight grandchildren; and sisters, Vivian Smith,
Wrightsville; Myra Dewey, Wilmington, N.C.; and Loraine Ott, York. A memorial
service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Kunkle United Methodist Church. The
Rev. Wayne Elston, his nephew, pastor of Believers Fellowship Center, Scotia,
N.Y., will officiate. Internment will be in Memorial Shrine Park, Carverton.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Memorial donations may be made
to the American Cancer Society, or the Kunkle Fire Co., or the Kunkle United
Methodist Church. Arrangements are by the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home,
Dallas.
