February 1, 2000 oseph F. Gillis, 94, of Wilkes-Barre, died Tuesday at Mercy
Special Care Hospital, Nanticoke. Born Nov. 2, 1905, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a
son of the late Anthony and Mary (Rustaitis) Gillis. Before retiring, he was a
mechanic at B.F. Goodrich Co., Wilkes-Barre. He was a member of Holy Trinity
Church, Wilkes-Barre, and a member of the parish senior and junior Holy Name
Societies; the Lithuanian Social Club, Wilkes-Barre Township; and the
International Brotherhood of Magicians. He was preceded in death by his
brothers, Anthony and Peter. Surviving are his sons, Leo, Hanover Township;
Joseph, Shavertown; and John, Atlanta; daughters, Mary Gillis, Shavertown; and
Dorothy Corcoran, Wilkes-Barre; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren
and several nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday
in Holy Trinity Church. The Rev. Theodore L. Obaza will officiate. Private
interment will be in the parish cemetery, Bear Creek. There will be no calling
hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity
Church. Funeral Arrangements are by the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home,
Wilkes-Barre.
