Pugh Street property will be demolished
   
Editor’s note: Municipal Musings appears every week in The West Side Leader
and is written by a representative from a different West Side community each
week.
    The 2000 Edwardsville Borough Recycling Stickers are now on sale at the
Borough Building, 470 Main St., Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to
4:30 p.m. and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The recycling sticker fee remains at $20 each. A recycling sticker must be
purchased for each residential unit (house or apartment). For rental
properties, the owner is legally responsible and will be fined if the sticker
is not purchased by the March 31 deadline. The owners of housing units lacking
the 2000 recycling sticker will be cited if the recycling sticker fee is not
paid by the deadline.

Borough Council has awarded a contract to Brdaric Excavating to demolish
the burned out house at 25-26 Pugh Street. The borough obtained a Community
Development Grant to fund the project. The borough has acquired the property
and plans are to make the vacant lot into a public parking area.

During snowfalls, property owners and residents are reminded that
Edwardsville Borough Code Section 112-1 requires the public sidewalks along
each property to be cleared of all snow and ice within 12 hours of a winter
weather event.

Building Inspector Henry O’Dell reminds all residents and property owners
that a building permit is required before any repair or renovation work is
started. Contractors are advised that they must renew their contractor’s
license for the 2000 year.

Fire Chief Ray King recently released his 1999 Annual Report. In 1999, the
Edwardsville Fire Department responded to 187 fire alarms, consisting in part
of 57 structure alarms, 27 investigations, 24 motor vehicle accidents and 11
brush fires.
   
Volunteer fire fighters from the Woodward Hill, Columbia and Franklin Hose
Companies logged a total of 1176 hours. The Edwardsville Volunteer Ambulance
Association responded to 747 ambulance calls during the year, which included
478 medical emergency calls, 57 responses to motor vehicle accidents and 68
fire department assists.
   
The borough recently received notice from DCED of its approval of a grant
allocation for the borough police department’s computerization update project.
