ABOUT THE TWO-HOUR delay for children going to school when it’s cold: My
daughter normally gets a ride to school from my wife. When there is a two-hour
delay, she ends up having to stand on a street corner waiting for the bus to
arrive in the very cold temperatures. REGARDING THE DALLAS Township road
department, I’ve lived here for over 30 years. The road department has been
going downhill progressively in the last 10 years in repairing potholes and
snow clearing. TOM MAKOWSKI’S recent decisions aren’t good, and he has really
been taking bad advice. Maybe his friends really are not. ABOUT MCGROARTY IN
the Sunday paper today, ha, ha, it’s comical. These people voted him back in
and all he does is make promises like most politicians, never pulls them
through but makes them. And the reason he doesn’t want anybody else involved
in the refurbishing (of) the downtown (is) because he’s afraid they’ll get
credit for it. TO ALL THE PEOPLE that are complaining about the cats. If it
wasn’t for cats, we’d be infested with mice. All of our yards back here in the
Back Mountain are full of holes from all the moles even. We need more cats.
I’M CALLING in regards to the SAYSO from Jan. 23 concerning the children’s
birthday pictures. The comment was “it’s good to see 12 out of the 13 have
the same mother and father with the same last name.” I don’t believe the
Times Leader would print a nasty comment from someone who doesn’t know the
situations of those children and their families. Some people are divorced,
aren’t married or keep their maiden name for professional reasons. What should
be important is that those children are loved and cared for. I really hope
that caller feels good about picking on children, especially on their
birthday. IF YOU ATTENDED the first rock concert at the new arena, and you’re
offended by the cigarette, cigar and pot smoke, don’t even waste your time
complaining to the Wilkes-Barre office of the Pennsylvania Health Department,
although they are the persons that are charged by law to enforce the law.
They’ll do nothing about it, I guarantee it. I THINK YOU should hire some
reporters to write business stories in your newspaper. It seems we get very
(little) local news about businesses in our area. Is there anyone working up
there? SOUTHWEST AIRLINES is looking for airports to fly out of. Wilkes-Barre
should try to get them here. Their prices are reasonable and the workers are
great, and their planes are safe and on time. We’ve flown them before, and
they’re wonderful. DOES ANYONE KNOW when or if a road will ever be paved in
the near future to access the Arena Hub Plaza from the new exit off of 81,
since we’re now no longer allowed to use the existing road behind the arena? I
seem to recall the original plan was for 81 to exit directly to Mundy Street
long before the arena was ever even thought of. Does anyone have the answers
to my question? EDITOR’S NOTE: State Rep. Kevin Blaum, chairman of the arena
authority, said that Highland Boulevard will be widened and expanded to
connect to Mundy Street in the spring. THE CHURCH SHOULD do away with the
custom of shaking hands as a sign of peace. I just nod my head. Not all
churches do this custom. REGARDING YOUR NEW format, I’ve been out of the state
for several months and was so pleased to see it when I came in. THERE IS NO
Nesbitt Hospital administration. It is now Wyoming Valley Health Care, and
Nesbitt is only a campus. I think people have a wrong idea about a lot of
things. WHY CAN’T WYOMING Valley Health Care give their nurses a raise? But
apparently they can pay for the residents of Auburn Street in Wilkes-Barre to
have their sidewalks plowed with the Wyoming Valley Health Care plow. Boy,
pretty bad when you can plow the sidewalks for the city of Wilkes-Barre, but
you can’t give the hard working nurses their raise. It’s a shame. NOW THAT
THE federal government is closed for the second day in Washington, D.C., I
wonder if the Democrats are going to blame the Republicans for this? SINCE
PENNSYLVANIA has sued the tobacco industry and received $11 billion, I would
like to know why Pennsylvania, after using the people who smoke as a weapon to
get this settlement, that this money isn’t being used for any tobacco-related
diseases. You’ve used the people to get the money, and now you’re not giving
it to them? That’s wrong, Pennsylvania, you should use the money to help the
people who are suffering from tobacco-related diseases. THE REASON I
suggested a Jewish row officer is because there is none. I hope that satisfies
your question on diversity. Besides, there are very few Jewish politicians in
the valley, and I don’t understand this because there is a large Jewish
population. I’m just curious, that’s all. HOPEFULLY, THE PERSON who
discarded a beer bottle in the Price Chopper parking lot in East End reads
this. I accidentally ran over the bottle and cut my tires and had to purchase
two tires. If you drinkers don’t know how to dispose of your garbage, don’t
drink. There’s a time and place for everything. REPRESENTATIVE HASAY knew
they were expanding railroad service in Mocanaqua long before it happened. I’m
so tired of hearing excuses from these politicians, who are paid full-time
salaries by us taxpayers and work on problems when they’re too late. I’M SURE
I’ll be one of many to defend our little borough of Forty Fort. I’d like to
know what town this bozo lives in, what type of car he drives, the last time
he had a tune up and check for emissions. Where does his or her glass,
plastics and newspapers go? Forty Fort has been recycling for quite a while
now. Municipal workers are probably the best around and do one heck of a job
on different days taking things to be recycled. We pay a small recycling fee,
which is great. I’ll grant you some people do abuse the burning law, which is
only allowed one day a week. But come on, what does open burning have to do
with our economy? To say that “Forty Fort smells,” I’ll tell you what, my
friend, you stink. I WAS OUT of town when you changed your format, and I
admit it made me nervous and jerky, until I realized I could now check to see
if I died during the night and do the crossword without my reading glasses.
Good job. EDITOR’S NOTE: Here’s hoping you make it through lots more nights.
THE DEPUTY SHERIFFS working over the arena shouldn’t be getting overtime pay.
Just because they work eight hours in the courthouse, doesn’t mean they should
be getting overtime to work at the arena. That’s like me if I put in eight
hours at Kmart and go to Wal-Mart, Wal-Mart’s not going to pay me time and a
half. If they want to work at the arena, that’s a separate job. Pay them
straight time.
